Barring any unforeseen circumstances, staff of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) will enjoy an upward review in their take home pay with effect from 2018.

In a chat with City BusinessNews (www.citybusinessnews.com) on Monday in Abuja, a highly placed source in the Ministry of Transportation said: “All necessary investigations have been concluded. I want to say without any fear of contradiction that the system is not fair to workers of NPA”.

The source added: “If you look at page 10 and 11 of this document, you will discover that a Director at Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is better renumerated than the Managing Director of NPA. The Ministry will do everything within its power to assist. But, we need the support of two other agencies. If allowed to sail through, the wage bill may increase by about 40 per cent in 2018”.

Appealing for calm, the source said: “It is also unacceptable for some junior workers to earn more than managers. The issue will be settled next year (2018)”.
