The World Bank on Saturday in Kano commended the successes recorded in its Agro-processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support Project.
Dr Adetunji Oredipe, World Bank Task Team Leader gave the commendation while fielding questions at the 7th implementation support mission on the project.
“Kano office has done well and my emphasis on this mission will be on sustainability use. Whatever we do and how we sustain it.
“In Kano, I am happy to report that they have done very well in terms of changing the face of development among the beneficiaries,’’ he said.
Oredipe stressed that the project had done a lot in supporting farmers
“The result is already coming in terms of increase in yields and adding value to farm produce to improve livelihoods,’’ he said.
In his remarks, National Project Coordinator, Mr Muhammad Sani-Joddi, expressed satisfaction at the successes recorded in the project in Kano State.
“As we went round the various intervention sites, we saw a lot of activities going on because the issue of value addition is very important.
“Kano State has been able to do a lot in rice and in tomato production, processing, packaging and marketing,’’ he noted.
He added that under the Women and Youths Empowerment Programme, the World Bank had supported between 80 per cent and 90 per cent of targeted beneficiaries.
Sani-Joddi also said that 50 per cent of targeted beneficiaries in the Commodity Interest Groups had also been supported by the project in Kano State. nan.
