
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius has emphasized the importance of allowing the National Environmental Standards Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESRA) to carry out its mandate unhindered at the nation’s seaport.
Dr. Akutah who spoke during a courtesy visit by the agency’s Acting Director, Lagos Liaison Office, Dr. Jonathan Dajel to the NSC’s Office in Lagos on Tuesday commended NESRA for its crucial enforcement activities at the nation’s seaports.
He also stressed the need for synergy among government agencies, emphasizing collaboration over antagonism.
Dr Akutah highlighted the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola’s commitment to sustainable ocean resource management and called for NESRA to ratify and domesticate its agreements for mutual benefit.
On his part, Dr. Dajel sought a partnership with the Council as the Port Economic, citing challenges in accessing port terminals for enforcement activities.
He noted Nigeria’s signatory status to international environmental conventions and NESRA’s role in issuing Ballast Water Management Certificates to regulate marine pollution.
Both parties expressed support for collaboration, recognizing its potential to enhance port operations and environmental sustainability.
