The Abia State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Coscharis Group for the deployment of electric buses across the state as part of its expanding “Green Shuttle Service.” The initiative is aimed at modernising public transportation while promoting cleaner, more sustainable mobility.
City Business News reports that 20 units of the electric buses—manufactured in China by Asiastar in collaboration with Coscharis—have already arrived in Nigeria. Another batch of 20 units is expected in the second phase of the rollout, bringing the total number of buses under the first deployment cycle to 40.
Conducting Journalists round the buses on Thursday in Lagos, President of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmos Maduka, highlighted the capabilities of the buses, noting that a full charge enables up to 300 kilometres of travel before requiring another charging cycle. He said the 40-passenger-capacity buses are designed to charge primarily at night after completing their daily operations.
“With these buses, there’s no stress. No fuel or diesel stress. Zero stress,” Maduka said. “Clean environment, factory-fitted cameras, safety and security gadgets, among others.”
Maduka also referenced Coscharis Group’s previous supply of 500 units of similar buses to the Lagos State Government, affirming that the company has the experience and infrastructure to support Abia State’s electric mobility transition.
The electric buses are expected to serve major cities including Aba and Umuahia, strengthening the state’s broader transport modernisation agenda and contributing to a cleaner, more efficient urban mobility system.
