The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026, following a surge in activity on its electronic tax platform.
The agency said the decision was informed by the significant increase in traffic on its eTax system after an earlier extension to April 14, as more taxpayers moved to comply with filing requirements.
In a statement issued by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications, the service said the additional window is aimed at giving taxpayers sufficient time to complete their submissions without difficulty.
According to the agency, the extension reflects its commitment to enhancing taxpayer convenience while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of filings.
LIRS commended taxpayers for their continued compliance and dedication to fulfilling their civic responsibilities, noting that the positive response underscores growing awareness of tax obligations in the state.
The agency, however, reminded residents that filing annual income tax returns remains a statutory requirement and urged all eligible taxpayers to take advantage of the final extension to meet the deadline.
It reiterated its commitment to providing efficient and user-friendly services, while encouraging taxpayers to utilise the eTax platform to complete their filings promptly.
