Apomu, the headquarters of Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, once again came alive with colour, culture and celebration as indigenes and friends gathered to mark the annual Apomu Day celebration.
Founded in the 16th century, Apomu holds a distinguished place in Yoruba history. For over 300 years, the ancient town served as a major market centre in Yorubaland, playing a vital role in commerce, cultural exchange and regional development. This rich historical legacy formed the backdrop of this year’s Apomu Day celebration.
The event, which has become a significant cultural fixture, was designed to promote and preserve Apomu’s rich heritage while fostering unity among its people. It attracted a large turnout of Apomu indigenes and non-indigenes from within Nigeria and across the diaspora, all united by a shared appreciation of the town’s history and values.
A major highlight of the celebration was the electrifying performance by renowned Fuji music icon, Saheed Osupa, who thrilled the crowd with captivating renditions that kept attendees on their feet and added glamour to the festivities.
Organisers expressed deep appreciation to the President of the Apomu Descendants Union, as well as the executives and members of the Union, whose collective efforts, dedication and contributions ensured the successful planning and execution of the event.
Apomu Day once again reaffirmed the town’s enduring legacy, cultural pride and the strong bond that continues to unite its people, at home and abroad.
