President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock over the news of the death of Abubakar Audu, the All Progressives Congress candidate in the inconclusive Kogi State governorship election.
The President, who is attending the Third Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran, made his feeling known in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
“We are obviously devastated at the loss,” the statement quoted the President as saying
Buhari described the late Audu as a “talented politician, a family loving head, immensely courageous and a respected community leader”.
President Buhari condoled with the family of the late governor, the government and people of Kogi State as well as all APC party members, who stood with the deceased in his bid to return as governor.
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the President noted that the deceased ran as the favourite in the election as the early results had clearly indicated.
He, therefore, prayed to Allah to repose the soul of the deceased and to give his family, the people of Kogi State as well as the APC members across the country the fortitude to bear this loss.
