The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Thursday, 30 October 2025, marked a historic transition of leadership as Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Sunday Kelvin Aneke formally assumed office as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).
In his inaugural address at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja, AVM Aneke described his appointment as “a tremendous privilege and a solemn duty,” pledging to lead with humility, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to national security. He paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for his exceptional leadership, professionalism, and courage, especially in navigating the Force through a defining phase in the nation’s fight against terrorism.
Acknowledging the strong institutional foundation laid by Air Marshal Abubakar, the new Air Chief promised to consolidate on his predecessor’s achievements, strengthen operational effectiveness, and deepen innovation within the Service.
In his valedictory remarks, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the opportunity to serve the nation and lead the NAF during a period of significant transformation. He highlighted key milestones, including improved operational efficiency, expanded capacity-building programmes, and Nigeria’s assumption of the Chairmanship of the Association of African Air Forces.
Describing AVM Aneke as “an officer of proven integrity, dedication, and competence,” Abubakar urged his successor to sustain the momentum of progress, prioritize personnel welfare, and maintain a combat-ready, people-oriented Air Force. He also paid tribute to fallen heroes and extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Armed Forces hierarchy, colleagues, and his family for their unwavering support.
In his acceptance speech, AVM Aneke reaffirmed his gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the confidence reposed in him.
He reiterated the NAF’s “unflinching loyalty to the President, the Constitution, and the Nigerian people,” while pledging to enhance inter-service cooperation, strengthen force readiness, and drive innovations that would bolster Nigeria’s security architecture.
He further appreciated the Tenth National Assembly, his colleagues across the Armed Forces, and his family for their steadfast support.
With the transition now complete, the Nigerian Air Force enters a new era under AVM Aneke’s leadership—one anchored on discipline, innovation, and mission focus—as the Service remains Willing, Able, and Ready to defend Nigeria’s airspace and uphold national pride.
