The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has intensified preparations for the forthcoming Global Conference on Beneficial Ownership and Asset Recovery, a landmark event expected to bring together participants from more than 250 countries and jurisdictions.
The conference is being hosted by the CAC in collaboration with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGZAF), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Code of Conduct Bureau, Banwo & Ighodalo, Templars Law Firm and other strategic partners.
According to the Commission, the global gathering will reaffirm Nigeria’s growing leadership in beneficial ownership transparency, corporate governance and asset recovery, while strengthening international cooperation in the fight against illicit financial flows and financial crimes.
As part of activities leading to the conference, the Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer of the CAC received a delegation from Open Ownership, led by Mr. Tom, as well as representatives of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The meeting reviewed the progress and achievements of Nigeria’s Beneficial Ownership Register, with discussions highlighting its contribution to promoting transparency, accountability and the fight against financial crimes.
The engagement also reinforced collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners as stakeholders prepare for the global conference, which is expected to serve as a platform for advancing best practices in beneficial ownership disclosure, corporate governance and effective asset recovery across jurisdictions.
