A car dealer, Bashir Magaji on Monday dragged his former fiancée Sadiya Muhammad and her father Umar, before an upper Sharia court sitting at Tudun Wada. Kaduna for refusing his marriage proposal.
The plaintiff, who resides in Tudun Wada, Kaduna, told the court that he sought Muhammad’s hand in marriage when she was still in secondary school and her father asked him to wait until she finished school.
” I paid N20,000 for introduction and continued to take care of the girl’s needs. I paid for her WAEC two times, paid for her Qur’anic graduation, bought her cell phones and gave her sister some money to start up a business.
”Trouble started when I refused to sponsor my former fiancée’s birthday party, a decision that angered her father, and he called off the engagement,” he said.
He prayed court to recover all he that he spent on Muhammad in the four- year courtship .
The defence counsel, Mr Muhammad Alhassan, told the court that his clients had fully refunded the defendant the N20,000 introduction money.
Two of the plaintiff witnesses testified to the fact that the girl’s father did return the N20,000 and consequently called off the engagement after a misunderstanding about his daughter’s birthday party.
They however, said they were not in a position to either confirm or deny other payments or refund of same to the plaintiff.
The Judge, Malam Lawal Sule-Abdulllahi, adjourned the case until;l Feb. 18 for more witnesses to testify.NAN
