The Senate on Tuesday passed a resolution urging President Muhammadu Buhari to issue a proclamation for the conduct of the National population and Housing census in 2018.
The resolution was based on a motion sponsored by Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi (APC, Kaduna North) and four others.
Also, the Senate urged the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the National Population Commission and Ministry for Budget and National Planning to make adequate provision in the 2017 budget for the census.
Hunkuyi explained that the last population census was conducted in 2006, adding that in line with the United Nation (UN) another exercise should have been conducted in 2016 (this year).
