A Shari’a court sitting at Rigasa, Kaduna, on Tuesday ordered one Nur Aminu, 25, to refund the N50,000 dowry she received from her husband Abdulrahman Garba, in exchange for divorce.
The judge, Malam Salisu Tureta, gave the order after the complainant told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage and was ready to refund her dowry to redeem her self, a process known as Khul’i in Sharia law.
The complainant mentioned that they got married in Dec 2016 and the union was blessed with a son.
The defendant was not in court and the court messenger confirmed that Garba was served.
The judge ruled that since the defendant was not in court and did not send any letter or representative to notify the court reasons for his absence, the court would proceed.
“I hereby dissolve the union between Abdulrahman Garba and Nur Aminu based on Khul’i; she will refund the N50,000 dowry she received from him,“
