The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has approved the promotion of 74 officers of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) command , Lagos to different new ranks.
The newly promoted officers were Wednesday decorated with their new ranks by Mrs. Jayne Shoboiki, Customs Area Comptroller (CAC) at the command.
Shoboiki admonished the officers to continue to be good ambassadors of the service, stressing that their promotions came with more challenges.
Shoboiki commended the Comptroller General of Customs Service, Col. Hameed for granting the approval for the elevation of the officers, stressing that the command would continue to perform to the best of its ability.
He charged the officers to continue to discharge their duties to the country and urged them to ensure they key into the improved revenue generation drive of the service.
She said: “This promotion signifies that you have consistently performed your duties as expected from you, but to whom much is given, much more is expected. Promotion is additional responsibility. The government still expects some levels of improvement from you. We should always strive to represent this command well through our service.
“And for those who were not promoted now, you may have been promoted spiritually, health-wise and with other records of achievements. However, I can assure you that your promotion is on the way as anyone that is deserving of promotion would be promoted as at when due. It is just that there is no vacancy for more officers to be promoted, not because you didn’t pass the exams, but because of lack of additional space to accommodate more officers.”
The breakdown of the promoted officers indicated that one officer was promoted to the position of Comptroller, four to the post of Comptroller, three as Assistant Comptroller, 16 as Chief Superintendent, 14 Superintendent, 18 Deputy Superintendent and additional 18 were promoted as Assistant Superintendent II.
A total number of 1997 were promoted nationwide by the service.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Mr. Adebola Adegbite who was elevated as Comptroller commended the Federal Government for the privilege given them to be promoted.
He promised that the newly decorated officers and others within the command would continue to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities.
