Dangote Group has announced a series of strategic technical partnerships to drive the next phase of expansion of its fertiliser operations in Nigeria and support the development of new fertiliser plants in Ethiopia. The agreements mark a significant milestone in the Group’s long-term strategy to boost regional food security, enhance agricultural productivity, and position Africa more competitively in the global fertiliser market.
Under the new expansion plan, Dangote Group will triple its urea production capacity in Nigeria from the current three million metric tons to nine million metric tons annually. The existing facility, which operates two trains with a combined output of three million metric tons, will be complemented by four additional trains. This expansion will enable the Group to meet the rising demand for high-quality fertiliser across Africa and international markets.
Complementing the Nigerian expansion, Dangote Group recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for a $2.5 billion fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia. Designed to produce three million metric tons of urea annually, the project underscores the Group’s commitment to advancing food security and industrial development across the African continent.
To ensure world-class standards in technology, operational reliability, and efficiency, Dangote Group has entered into strategic technical partnerships with leading global engineering and technology companies:
Topsoe:
Topsoe will provide technology licensing and complete process design packages for six ammonia plants—four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. The company is a global leader in advanced ammonia process technologies that support efficient and environmentally sustainable production.
Saipem:
Saipem will deliver technology licensing and full process design packages for urea melt units across all six plants. Its extensive engineering expertise will support the creation of highly efficient fertiliser production systems.
Thyssenkrupp (UFT Division):
Thyssenkrupp’s UFT division will supply granulation technology licenses and complete process design packages for granulation units in the six plants, enabling the production of premium-grade urea granules for domestic and export markets.
Engineers India Limited:
Engineers India Limited has been appointed as the project management consultant and engineering procurement and construction management consultant for the four fertiliser plants being developed by DFFZE in Lekki, Nigeria. The firm brings a strong track record in large-scale industrial project delivery.
Dangote Group said the collaborations reinforce its commitment to delivering industrial assets that meet the highest global standards. The expansion projects are expected to significantly increase regional urea and ammonia production capacity, create jobs, strengthen agricultural value chains, and drive sustainable economic growth in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and across Africa.
The Group reaffirmed its dedication to building resilient industrial capacity, supporting national development priorities, and forging robust international partnerships that contribute to Africa’s long-term prosperity.
