The Federal Government (FG), through the Comptroller General, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Dr. Vincent Isegbe, has inspected the facilities of Atlantic Shrimpers Limited (ASL) in Apapa, Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen biosecurity, export facilitation and compliance in Nigeria’s aquatic products sector.
Isegbe, accompanied by the South-West Zonal Commander, Dr. Joy Ichue, and other officers of the Service, visited the company’s facility at NPA Phase 1, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Apapa.
During the inspection, the NAQS boss assessed the company’s farm, processing plant and other critical operational areas, focusing on biosecurity measures, sanitary practices, processing standards and compliance with requirements governing the international trade in aquatic products.
Isegbe commended the management of Atlantic Shrimpers Limited for its efforts towards strengthening Nigeria’s aquatic export value chain, creating employment opportunities, generating foreign exchange and contributing to economic growth.
He reaffirmed NAQS’ commitment to facilitating safe agricultural trade while ensuring that Nigerian aquatic products comply with the sanitary and phytosanitary requirements of international markets.
The Managing Director of Atlantic Shrimpers Limited, Mr. Kamlesh Kabra, expressed appreciation to NAQS for its continued partnership with the company.
Kabra also acknowledged Isegbe’s efforts towards the successful signing of the Nigeria-China Protocol on the export of wild aquatic products, describing the development as an important milestone for expanding market access and creating new opportunities for Nigeria’s aquatic sector.
The visit, according to the Service, underscores NAQS’ commitment to effective biosecurity, export facilitation and strategic collaboration with private-sector operators to position Nigerian aquatic products competitively in the global market.
