Firm Seals Two Charter Deals With MSC, Maersk Line

UK-based containership charter owner, Global Ship Lease (GSL) has agreed new charters for two of its vessels with container shipping majors.
Both charters are commencing this June and include the 2,824 TEU GSL Valerie and the 5,095 TEU Orca.
The 2005-built GSL Valerie will be chartered for twelve months to Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) at a fixed rate of USD 9,000 per day.
In addition, the 2006-built Orca I will be hired by Denmark’s Maersk Line for twelve to twenty-four months at a fixed rate of USD 9,000 per day for the first year, and USD 10,000 per day thereafter.
“We’re pleased to have secured these new charters with top-tier counterparties,” Ian Webber, Chief Executive Officer of Global Ship Lease, commented.
GSL recently secured a USD 37 million loan from Hellenic Bank Public Company Limited to partially finance the earlier agreed acquisition of three 7,849 TEU containerships.
The Hellenic Bank Facility is available in three tranches, that have a final maturity date of the earlier of November 30, 2024 and the fifth anniversary of the utilization date of such tranche.
In late May, the company reached a deal to expand its fleet with the three 2004-built Post-Panamax containerships. GSL said it would pay USD 48.5 million for the trio, namely the MSC Ningbo, E.R. Montecito and E.R. Santa Barbara, being acquired from Bremen-based Zeaborn GmbH.
