The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has been honoured with the 2025 Road Safety Champion Award by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP). The award, presented at the association’s National Conference and Awards in Lagos, recognises his transformative leadership in road transportation safety and his dedication to advancing a safer motoring environment in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki Samson, highlighted the increasing importance of the media—especially online security platforms—in shaping national resilience amid rising security complexities, misinformation, and rapid technological evolution. He stressed the need for closer collaboration between the media and security agencies to ensure accurate, responsible, and timely reportage that strengthens national cohesion.
According to Mayor Samson, the conference represents a strategic partnership between those who safeguard the nation and those who shape public perception. He urged award recipients to embrace greater patriotism and commitment, emphasizing that national development requires sustained cooperation among stakeholders.
In his keynote address, the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by Air Vice Marshal Bashir Rimi Mamman, underscored the interdependence between security, governance, and national development. He called for unity, responsible journalism, and collective action to secure Nigeria’s future, noting that the event reinforces the media’s critical role in national security.
Also addressing the theme of the conference, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Lagos, described security as the backbone of economic development. Speaking on “Securing and Safeguarding Nigeria’s Economic Resources,” he emphasized the importance of aligning security operations with economic priorities and strengthening identity systems, institutional ethics, and cross-sector partnerships. This approach, he noted, is essential for protecting Nigeria’s tangible and intangible economic assets.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Corps Marshal, the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads nationwide. He noted that transportation remains a critical component of national infrastructure, with road traffic crashes posing significant threats to supply chains and increasing operational costs.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed pledged that the FRSC will continue enforcing key reforms in road safety and traffic management as government investments in infrastructure expand. He called on the media to strengthen public awareness on road safety issues, uphold professionalism, and help build public trust. He dedicated his award to the hardworking personnel of the FRSC.
The event also honoured the FRSC Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, who received the NAOSNP Best Security Agency Spokesperson of the Year award.
Dignitaries in attendance included representatives of the former Chief of Defence Staff; the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; AIG Adegoke Fayoade; and the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, among others.
