
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, on Wednesday received the Pillar Lead for Road Safety in Africa under the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) of the World Bank, Mrs. Marisela Ponce de León Valdes, in Abuja.
City Business News reports that the visit highlights the World Bank’s increasing collaboration with the FRSC in strengthening road safety systems across the continent and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global best practices in road traffic management.
During the engagement, Mrs. Ponce de León Valdes was conducted around key facilities of the Corps, where she gained insights into FRSC’s operational structures, data systems, emergency response architecture, and ongoing reforms aimed at modernising Nigeria’s road safety framework.
A major highlight of the visit was a strategic dialogue focused on enhancing road safety operations across Africa.
Both parties exchanged perspectives on eliminating the persistent menace of road traffic crashes through innovative, technology-driven, and sustainable approaches. They also explored new opportunities for collaboration in capacity building, policy harmonisation, and deploying data intelligence to improve decision-making and safety outcomes.
The meeting further underscored FRSC’s unwavering commitment to its mandate of saving lives and establishing a safer transportation environment for all road users.
The Corps Marshal reiterated that Nigeria remains fully aligned with global efforts to reduce road fatalities and accelerate the continent’s transition to safer mobility.
The FRSC expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership with the World Bank will support ongoing reforms and help drive impactful interventions that enhance road safety across Africa.
