The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has formally handed over ownership of Safeline Microfinance Bank to ROBOPAY NIG. LTD., in a move aimed at repositioning the financial institution for greater competitiveness, technological transformation and sustainable growth.
The handover ceremony, held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the premises of Safeline Microfinance Bank in Abuja, marked a new phase for the institution, which was established by the FRSC to provide financial services and opportunities for members of the Corps and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Safeline Microfinance Bank, Engr. Ibrahim Babagana, fwc, Deputy Corps Marshal (Rtd.), said the decision to divest the Bank followed the Board’s consideration of the prevailing regulatory environment and emerging government policies affecting the microfinance banking sector.
Babagana explained that sustaining the Bank under the changing financial landscape would require additional capital injection, substantial investment in technology and further strengthening of its human capital.
He said the Board therefore considered it necessary to transfer ownership to an investor with the capacity and willingness to make the required investments and drive the institution towards long-term sustainability.
Babagana expressed confidence in ROBOPAY NIG. LTD., saying the company had demonstrated the competence, commitment and vision required to build on the foundation laid by the FRSC and take Safeline Microfinance Bank to a new level of growth and service delivery.
He added that the new owners had shown particular commitment to strengthening the Bank’s capital base, deploying modern technology and investing in human resources, which he described as critical to remaining competitive in an increasingly digital financial environment.
Responding on behalf of ROBOPAY NIG. LTD., Malam Aliyu Abiodun thanked the Board and Management of Safeline Microfinance Bank for the confidence reposed in the company.
Abiodun described the acquisition as a major milestone and an opportunity to unlock the potential of the institution, noting that Safeline Microfinance Bank already had valuable assets, structures and an institutional foundation upon which the new owners would build.
He said ROBOPAY would deploy financial technology (FinTech), alongside strategic investments in capital, technology and human resources, to transform the Bank’s operations, enhance service delivery and strengthen its competitiveness.
According to him, the new ownership would leverage the foundation established by the FRSC while introducing innovative solutions to position Safeline Microfinance Bank for a stronger presence in Nigeria’s evolving financial services sector.
The transition, he said, represents more than a change of ownership, as it signals a shift towards a technology-driven and investment-led future for the Bank.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a new phase for Safeline Microfinance Bank, with both parties expressing commitment to a seamless transition and to positioning the institution to deliver sustainable value to its customers and stakeholders.
