The Lagos Sector Commander, Federal Road Safe Corps (FRSC), Olusegun Ogungbemide, has solicited the support of corporate organisations in ensuring safety of lives on Nigerian roads.

Ogungbemide made the call during the presentation of Safety Kits for FRSC Quick Response Rescue Unit (QRRU) by Guinness Nigeria on Friday at Ojodu, Lagos office.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Guinness Nigeria, led by its Corporate Relations Director and Company Secretary, Mr Rotimi Odusola, donated 22 safety helmets, 30 First Aid boxes and 30 reflective jackets to the unit.

The sector commander said that FRSC was set to partner with any organisation in eradicating road crashes.

He commended the brand for its humanitarian gesture to the FRSC, adding that road safety is a shared responsibility of everyone.

“Our vision is to reduce or totally eradicate road traffic crashes and create a seamless motorable environment for all.

“The business of road safety is not for only FRSC, but a shared responsibility. Therefore, l urge other organisations to collaborate with us in ensuring safety on our roads,” he said.

Ogungbemide also implored motorists to be cautious while driving and obey all road traffic regulations.

He cautioned them against drinking, saying that only the living celebrates.

He said: “It is only the living that can drink, so, if you drink yourself to stupor and you get killed, it is a minus.”

Responding, Odusola said the gesture was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Guinness Nigeria, particularly to enlighten motorists on responsible consumption of alcohol.

“We are here to foster the outstanding relationship we have with FRSC by donating some safety kits to their QRRU in order to help ease their work and train their officers.

“We at Guinness Nigeria share in the believe that motorists should separate drinking and driving, while it is extremely important that people consume alcohol responsibly.

“No one should consume alcohol in an irresponsible manner and Guineas Nigeria is saying it is important for motorists to separate drinking alcohol from driving”
