Gulf Of Guinea: Nigeria, Sao Tome To Deepen Cooperation On Security

The armed forces of Nigeria and those of Sao Tome and Principe have expressed commitment to strengthen bilateral defence collaboration in securing the Gulf of Guinea. 

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor, made this known when he received the CDS of the Armed Forces of Sao Tome and Principe, Brig.-Gen. Idalecio Pachire, on Monday in Abuja. 

The Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Jimi Akpor, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. 

Akpor said that Irabor also pledged commitment to tackling piracy and other forms of criminality within the corridor of the Gulf of Guinea. 

According to Akpor, other areas of collaboration discussed during the visit are capacity building of Sao Tome personnel, joint exercises and training assistance.

He said the Sao Tome and Principe’s defence chief equally visited the Nigerian Navy Headquarters as well as the Defence Intelligence Agency.
