Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City secured a commanding 2–0 victory over Porto in Portugal to hand manager Enzo Maresca a winning start to his Champions League campaign.
After a goalless first half, Haaland broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, rising to head home a cross from £125 million summer signing Enzo Fernández.
The Norwegian striker completed his brace in stoppage time, calmly finishing from Rayan Aït-Nouri’s pass to seal all three points for the visitors.
The victory extended City’s winning run under Maresca to four consecutive matches, comprising three Premier League victories and their Champions League opener.
City dominated proceedings throughout, enjoying more than 70 per cent possession and registering 20 attempts on goal.
Porto, meanwhile, struggled to create opportunities and remarkably failed to record a single shot during the match.
Haaland’s double further underlined his importance to City’s attack as the club made an impressive start to their European campaign.
The result will also boost Maresca’s confidence as he continues to establish his side following his arrival at the Manchester club.
