Stallion Hyundai Motors Nigeria has appealed to the Federal Government to approve subsidy for locally assembled Electric Vehicles.
Speaking at the just concluded 2021 Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) training workshop,
Hyundai Nigeria’s Head, Sales and Marketing, Mr. Gaurav Vashisht, said: “For the price to come down, we need to increase sales volume. And the easiest and safest way to achieve this is via subsidy.
“We are selling. Since we launched Kona into the Nigerian market, the reception has been tremendous, not only because it can cover 482 kilometers when fully charged, but the fact that all components of the car are protected against water. It’s all secured. We have made it known to Nigerians that, when you own a Kona, simply treat it like any other vehicle”.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Government is incorporating Electric Vehicles (EVs) into its National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP).
Addressing participants at the workshop, Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu disclosed that the NAIDP would be passed into law before the end of the year.
Jelani, who addressed participants virtually reiterated that electric vehicles remain the future of automobiles globally with many countries setting targets for migration into electric vehicles.
The DG who spoke at the workshop with the theme, “Migration to Electric Vehicles and Gas-powered Vehicles; Opportunities & Challenges for Nigeria,” said the EV is being incorporated into the NAIDP which he assured would be passed before the end of the year.
According to him, a lot of development like the EVs as well as gas-powered vehicles are springing up as the government fine-tunes the auto policy bill.
On the charging stations for electric vehicles, the DG encouraged Businessmen and women to take advantage of the opportunity.
