Foremost South Korean auto firm, Hyundai is to establish Mobility Global Innovation Centre (HMGIC) in Singapore with support from Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
The lab is focussing on exploring ideas to revolutionize R&D process, business and production for future mobility solutions.
According to the auto firm, the Hyundai Mobility Global Innovation Centre will collaborate with various partners in Singapore to develop and validate new business concepts.
Apart from that, this lab is claimed to be helping the company in developing a human-centred smart manufacturing platform.
Located in Singapore’s Jurong Innovation District, this open innovation lab will be built over an area of 44,000 square metres and its construction is scheduled to begin in May 2020, with completion expected in the second half of 2022, says Hyundai. The HMGIC could play a key role in Singapore’s Smart City project, further claimed the automaker.
Hyundai has been exploring the ideas of smart and futuristic mobility solutions for quite some time. Earlier this year, at the CES 2020, the auto major revealed its plan to develop mobility solutions like Urban Air Mobility (UAM), Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV), Mobility Hub etc. The HMGIC is expected to work on these concepts to expedite the development.
Commenting on this lab, Bo Shin Seo, President, Hyundai Motor Company, said, “HMGICs will be a testbed to explore and validate the future Hyundai is envisioning. Combining Hyundai’s innovative spirit and Singapore’s fertile atmosphere, we will develop ground-breaking businesses and future technologies.”
Hyundai informs that this HMGIC will be the home for the automaker’s CRADLE innovation hub and AI Research lab. Itis claimed to help the automaker to expand its global innovation network to Southeast Asia. Presently, Hyundai has such innovation hubs in South Korea, US, Israel, Germany and China.
