Representative of  INTELS Nigeria Limited were guests to the children of Compassion Centre, Nkpogu Village in Port Harcourt, Rivers State last Friday as they hosted the children and staff of the centre to a lavish Christmas party and donated several gift items and cash to the home.

INTELS also donated loads of gifts to the children and cash to the home, which was established and is being managed by the Religious Sisters of Charity.

The Compassion Centre has a simple and selfless vision: to educate and rehabilitate physically challenged children according to the needs of each individual.

Director of INTELS Nigeria Limited, Mr. Silvano Bellinato, who led staff of the company to the centre to celebrate Christmas with the children, said the gesture was to demonstrate the company’s belief that “physical challenge should not stop anyone from enjoying full and happy life”.

“INTELS is a highly responsible company. We believe strongly in giving back to the society as has been demonstrated through our unique CSR and community support initiatives. We are particularly happy for the opportunity to support the Compassion Centre and put smiles on the faces of the children,” he said.

Mr. Bellinato said INTELS has been in the forefront of providing charitable support to organisations that cater for the needy in the society.

He said in the past, INTELS had refurbished four dormitories, the computer room and the administrative block of the Compassion Centre even as it provided computers for use of the children and staff.

INTELS has also donated wheelchairs, provided and still provides scholarships and sponsors corrective surgical operation for as many of the children as may need it.

Medical Coordinator of the Centre, Sister Pauline Butler, who led other members of staff to receive the INTELS team, commended the company for its numerous support to the Centre.

She said INTELS has contributed in no small measure to the well-being and happiness of the children.

According to her, for several years, INTELS has been in the forefront of ensuring that children of the Compassion Centre are supported and empowered to realize their full potentials and contribute meaningfully to the development of the society.

The Compassion Centre is organized around four self-contained ‘family houses’ which encourage a natural and homely living ambience, while the Primary School next-door – the Compassion Centre’s former home – provides the younger children with high quality education.

The Centre helps physically-challenged children to develop a sense of self-worth, together with an awareness of the wider society, and also teaches them the skills they will need to lead confident and independent lives.

INTELS Nigeria Limited has supported the specialist care centre for several years.
