THE Kano State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill amounting to ₦1.477 trillion following its consideration during plenary.
The passage of the bill followed its second reading and deliberations in the Committee of the Whole at a sitting presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Falgore on Monday in Kano.
The budget, which was earlier presented to the House by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is aimed at consolidating the state’s development agenda with a strong focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social welfare.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation said the Assembly thoroughly scrutinised the proposal to ensure prudence, transparency and alignment with the needs of Kano residents. He noted that adjustments were made to some allocations to reflect current economic realities and priority sectors.
According to the breakdown, a significant portion of the budget is earmarked for capital expenditure to drive road construction, urban renewal, water supply and other critical projects, while the recurrent component is designed to cater for personnel costs, overheads and essential government services.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, commended lawmakers for what he described as a rigorous and patriotic legislative process. He assured that the Assembly would continue to provide oversight to ensure proper implementation of the budget.
In his remarks, the Speaker urged the executive arm to ensure efficient utilisation of funds and timely execution of projects to deliver tangible benefits to the people of the state.
The passage of the ₦1.47 trillion budget is expected to strengthen Kano State’s economic growth efforts and improve service delivery across key sectors in 2026.
