The Lagos State Government has unveiled a comprehensive traffic management plan to facilitate the commencement of Phase 1 reconstruction and expansion works on Ogunnusi Road by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The project covers the stretch from Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop to Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound) in Ikeja Local Government Area and forms part of a broader upgrade of the 9.0-kilometre dual carriage corridor between Ojodu-Berger and Mobil Filling Station Junction, both inbound and outbound.
According to the government, the entire project (Phases 1 and 2) will run from Friday, March 6, 2026, through different stages until Thursday, January 6, 2028.
Phase 1 will span 4.5 kilometres from Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop inward to Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound). The phase is scheduled to begin on Friday, March 6, 2026, and is expected to be completed by Saturday, February 6, 2027. During this period, there will be no vehicular access within the designated work zone to allow for seamless execution of the reconstruction works.
Traffic Diversions
To minimise disruption, the following diversion measures will be implemented:
Motorists travelling inward Ijaye/Agege through Ogunnusi Road from Ojodu-Berger will be diverted to drive on a contraflow along the Ojodu-Berger bound carriageway for approximately one kilometre before regaining access to the main carriageway to continue their journeys.
Alternatively, motorists may use Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo Way to connect to Otunba Jobifele Way, link Obafemi Awolowo Way, and then access Lateef Jakande Road to reach their destinations.
Articulated vehicle and truck drivers coming from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and heading toward Agege are advised to divert through Ojota/Maryland, connect to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, access Kodesoh Street, proceed to Oba Akran Avenue, link Guinness Roundabout, and continue via Ogba Road to Pen Cinema.
Motorists travelling from Ijaye/Agege toward Ojodu-Berger will experience through traffic.
However, upon approaching the construction zone, they will be diverted to form a contraflow with Ijaye/Agege bound traffic for approximately one kilometre before regaining full access after the work area.
Emergency Management
To ensure smooth traffic flow and prompt response to incidents, emergency tow vehicles will be strategically stationed along the corridor throughout the construction period to handle breakdowns and related emergencies.
Advisory to Motorists
Motorists are urged to exercise patience, comply with traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor. The temporary traffic adjustments, the government noted, are essential to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the reconstruction and expansion works, ultimately delivering an improved travel experience for road users.
The announcement was e-signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on March 1, 2026.
