The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has intensified its enforcement operations in the Lekki and Ikoyi axis of the state, sealing several buildings found to have commenced construction without the mandatory authorisation or building approval from the government.
During the exercise, LASBCA officials shut down ongoing developments at Femi Okunnu Road and Alexander Avenue after the property owners failed to obtain the necessary documentation permitting them to begin construction.
The agency emphasised that strict adherence to building regulations is vital to preventing unauthorised structures and ensuring safety and orderly development across Lagos.
In the course of the enforcement, LASBCA also issued a 72-hour ultimatum to QMB Mart to remove all illegal structures erected on the coastal road and under the powerline.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde Abiodun, the space was originally allocated to QMB Mart strictly for parking purposes. However, the occupants allegedly converted it into a commercial hub, erecting a laundromat, clubhouse, and eatery without the required approvals.
He stressed that the Lagos State Government will not tolerate any form of illegal construction or misuse of designated land.

“Development in Lagos must follow due process. Any structure built without approval or any change of use of government-allocated spaces without authorisation is illegal. We are committed to ensuring that the master plan of the state is respected,” he said.
Also speaking, the General Manager of LASBCA, Bldr. Gbaye Florence, reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to sustain regular monitoring across all development zones in Lagos.
“Our job is to ensure that buildings across Lagos are safe and comply with global standards. Anyone who puts up structures without approval will be tracked, marked, and appropriate enforcement actions taken,” she said.
LASBCA reiterated that its enforcement operations will continue across the state as part of broader efforts to eliminate illegal structures and promote a safer, well-planned Lagos.
