The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), has advanced plans for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Green Line with a high-level stakeholder engagement involving representatives of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and key stakeholders along the project corridor.
The meeting, held on Friday at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, was part of the AfDB’s appraisal mission to assess the project’s readiness and its compliance with the Bank’s environmental, social and institutional requirements ahead of the proposed financing of the landmark rail project.
Discussions centred on the entire Green Line project, with particular focus on Phase 1A, which will stretch from the Lekki First Toll Gate to Sangotedo.
The corridor is expected to significantly improve transportation and drive economic growth along the fast-developing Lekki-Epe axis.
Participants were presented with detailed information on the project’s alignment, implementation strategy, land acquisition process, compensation framework and traffic management plans designed to minimise disruptions during construction. The interactive session also enabled community leaders and other stakeholders to seek clarifications and make contributions to the successful delivery of the project.
Speaking during the engagement, LAMATA reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the Green Line in accordance with international best practices.
The Authority pledged to maintain strict compliance with environmental and social safeguard standards while ensuring transparent and continuous engagement with affected communities and businesses throughout the project lifecycle.
The stakeholder forum brought together senior government officials, development partners and private sector representatives, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi; the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa; and the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, who led the Authority’s executive management team.
The Green Line is expected to become a critical component of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit network, enhancing connectivity, reducing traffic congestion and supporting sustainable urban and economic development across the Lekki-Epe corridor.
