Ministry, NSC hold summit on truck transit parks

To facilitate investments in Truck Transit Parks (TTPs) and enhance trade and investments for the revival of Nigeria’s economy, the Federal Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and Kings Communications Limited is organizing a two-day national summit on establishment, management and operations of TTPs in Nigeria.

  The summit scheduled for Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th, July 2017 at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja, has the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi   Amaechi, as the chief host and will deliver the welcome address while the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola will deliver the keynote address.

  The summit which has the theme as: Truck Transit Parks: Providing Critical Infrastructure for Trade and Transit in Nigeria, seeks to assemble stakeholders in transport and logistics sector to optimize the potentials and investment opportunities in TTPs; to harmonize and standardize truck parking facilities on Nigerian roads; adopt financial models for developing and sustaining truck transit parks; to establish the role of stakeholders in managing TTPs, among others.

  According to the spokesman for the Nigerian Shippers’ Council(NSC), Mr. Ignatius Nweke, among those expected to attend the summit are some of the critical stakeholders in the project, which include state governors and transport commissioners, haulage truck owners, transport unions, construction companies, relevant National Assembly committees, prospective investors and leaders of thought in the sector.

  Expected to deliver papers at the event include: The Minister of State for Budget and Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmad, “ Overall  Analysis of Infrastructural Deficit in the Transport Industry in Nigeria: The Need for Strategic Funding”; the Director General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission(ICRC), Dr. Aminu Diko, “PPP Models and the Way Forward for TTP Projects in Nigeria”.
