Hosts Morocco on Wednesday booked their place in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Nigeria 4–2 on penalties following a tense semi-final that ended goalless after extra time.
Both sides battled fiercely throughout regulation time and extra time, creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough, as disciplined defending and goalkeeping kept the scoreline at 0–0.
The deadlock was eventually settled in a penalty shootout, where the Moroccans held their nerve in front of a home crowd to secure a 4–2 victory and advance to the final.
Morocco will now face Senegal in Sunday’s AFCON showpiece. The Teranga Lions sealed their place in the final earlier on Wednesday with a narrow 1–0 win over Egypt, courtesy of a decisive strike from Sadio Mané.
