As part of measures to deepen grassroots empowerment and expand technical capacity across Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) hosted delegates from Jigawa State at its headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
The delegation, representing Hon. Mansur Usman, Chairman of Kazaure LGA, and Hon. Dr. Abba Ya’u, Chairman of Roni LGA, was led by Engr. Sahanunu Dahiru, Technical Assistant to Roni LGA.
Speaking on behalf of the local government chairmen, he acknowledged NADDC’s national impact on youth empowerment and vocational skills development, stating that their visit was a deliberate effort to request collaboration with the Council on training and empowerment programs tailored for Jigawa youths.
Engr. Dahiru emphasized the urgent need for technical skills in auto mechanics, diagnostics, motorcycle and tricycle repairs, welding, and fabrication.
He noted that the growing youth population in the region demands structured interventions to reduce dependency on government jobs and foster self-reliance through modern skills and access to tools post-training.
In his response, NADDC Director-General, Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, appreciated the visit and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to youth development. He praised the chairmen for prioritizing the future of their constituents and confirmed that NADDC already has an Automotive Training Centre in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, which is fully completed and now ready for commissioning.
He assured the delegates that following the commissioning, a structured training program will be rolled out in collaboration with local stakeholders, including the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) and the Jigawa State Government. The initiative will benefit not only Roni and Kazaure LGAs but will extend across the state, equipping young people with hands-on technical expertise to thrive in Nigeria’s evolving automotive sector.
This engagement reflects NADDC’s ongoing mission to drive inclusive and sustainable development by bridging the skills gap and empowering communities through industry-focused capacity building.
