NADDC, RMRDC Deepen Collaboration to Boost Local Content in Automotive Sector

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), led by its Director General, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, has held a strategic meeting with the Director General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Prof. Nnayelugo Ikemounso, to strengthen collaboration and advance local content development in Nigeria’s automotive industry.
The engagement, which took place on Tuesday in Abuja, forms part of ongoing efforts to drive growth in the nation’s automotive sector through the use of locally sourced materials.
Speaking during the meeting, Osanipin stressed the urgent need to develop automotive components using indigenous resources, noting that sustained investment in research and development is critical to achieving this goal. He emphasized that meaningful progress in local content development would require strong collaboration among relevant government agencies, underscoring the need for coordinated institutional efforts to build a resilient and self-sustaining industry.
In his remarks, Ikemounso reaffirmed RMRDC’s commitment to supporting NADDC in harnessing Nigeria’s abundant raw materials for automotive production, aligning with a shared vision of sustainable industrial growth.
Discussions at the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between both agencies, with particular attention on mobilising local technicians, integrating the informal sector into the automotive value chain, and leveraging national logistics frameworks to boost local content development.
The partnership highlights a renewed commitment by both institutions to strengthen Nigeria’s automotive industry through innovation, effective use of local resources, and improved institutional synergy.
