The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved N58 billion contract for the supply of 200 electric buses to the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh, who briefed journalists after the meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the electric-bus procurement is one of the administration’s strategic steps to strengthen Nigeria’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
According to him, the contract—described as a flagship industrial investment—forms a core component of the government’s broader agenda to modernise automotive infrastructure, deepen local capacity, and position Nigeria as a key player in Africa’s emerging e-mobility market.

“The first memo considered and approved was the award of a contract for the supply of 200 units of electric buses at the cost of N58 billion for the National Automotive Design and Development Council,” Enoh said. “This aligns with the administration’s commitment to advancing industrial expansion through sustainable mobility solutions.”
Beyond the electric-bus investment, Enoh disclosed that FEC also approved the design and construction of a new Bank of Industry headquarters at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos.
He further described the approval of the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 as the most consequential outcome of the meeting. The new policy provides the long-awaited framework to guide the country’s industrialisation efforts, revive stakeholder confidence, and re-engage development partners who had been hesitant due to the absence of an updated national industrial strategy.
On trade and investment, the council approved a contract for the construction of internal and access roads at the Lekki Medical Tourism Park, while noting Nigeria’s successful bid to host the Intra-African Trade Fair, with Lagos designated as the host city and the Lagos Creative and Cultural Centre (formerly the National Arts Theatre) as the main venue.
Enoh said the decisions taken by the council reinforce President Tinubu’s economic diversification drive and align with ongoing industrialisation programmes supported by UNIDO and the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.
