The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has received the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the site of Textiles and Garment Park in Funtua, Katsina State.
Managing Director of NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, received the C of O on Tuesday in Abuja from the Director-General, Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur.
Adesugba, while receiving the certificate for the 277 hectares of land, said the park was part of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) project approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
He said that about N500 million had already been expended on the Textiles and Garment Park project being located in Funtua.
According to him, the project will be completed in the next 18 months.
He said it would generate over 10,000 direct and 60,000 indirect jobs in the state.
The NEPZA chief said plans were also underway to establish Medical Economic Zones in the state.
Adesugba, who noted that FEC had already approved two billion naira for the project, advised other state governments to key into the project to enhance national economic development.
The NEPZA boss identified SEZs as vital to industrialisation and economic development.
He said that arrangements had also been concluded to establish the Zones in about 10 states of the federation.
Earlier, Tukur commended NEPZA for the establishment of the Textiles and Garment Park in the state.

In a remark, Dr Osuji Otu, UNIDO National Programme Officer, said the organisation already had a master plan to support the park development.
He said it focused on the development of agric business and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
According to him, it will provide policy direction to Katsina State Government towards realising the objectives of the project. nan.
