Founder of ABC Transport Plc, Mr. Frank Nneji, has received the Industry Legacy Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to road transportation, entrepreneurship and national development.
Nneji, who was also Chairman of the Occasion, received the prestigious award at the 30th Anniversary Legacy Leadership Lecture and Awards organised by Julie Chi-Nwaoha, Founder/Publisher of On The Highway Africa, in Lagos on Tuesday.
The event celebrated Chi-Nwaoha’s 30 years of reporting the transportation sector and the 10th anniversary of On The Highway Africa.
Speaking after receiving the award, Nneji called on the Federal Government to prioritise road infrastructure development, stressing that good roads translate to better business and economic growth.
He described transportation as a critical driver of economic activities, noting that efficient road networks would enhance logistics, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and improve business productivity.
According to him, road transportation remains the dominant mode of movement in Nigeria, accounting for more than 90 per cent of passenger movement, yet the sector does not receive attention commensurate with its importance.
“Statistics show that more than 90 per cent of Nigerians still move by road,” he said, calling for stronger policy attention and increased investment in road infrastructure.
Nneji observed that challenges confronting the aviation sector often attract immediate national attention and policy discussions, while difficulties in road transportation, which serves a significantly larger proportion of the population, receive comparatively less attention.
He also advocated greater private sector participation in road infrastructure development, suggesting that road concessioning could improve construction quality, maintenance and long-term sustainability.
On the role of the media, the ABC Transport founder said journalists and media organisations have an important responsibility in shaping public policy and advancing national development.
He recalled how advocacy by transport and business publications had helped draw attention to critical road infrastructure challenges, urging journalists to sustain their coverage of issues affecting transportation, logistics and economic development.
Nneji congratulated Chi-Nwaoha on her 30 years of consistent reporting on the transportation industry, commending her tenacity and commitment to promoting the sector through On The Highway Africa.
