The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has called for deeper collaboration among industry stakeholders to strengthen resilience and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas sector amid the rapidly evolving global energy landscape.
The Commission Chief Executive of NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, made the call while speaking at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE 2026) held in Lagos on Monday.
Eyesan said collaboration remains central to the Commission’s regulatory approach, noting that NUPRC has continued to engage industry leaders through monthly meetings and extensive stakeholder consultations in the development of new regulations, guidelines and regulatory frameworks.
According to her, strong partnerships are essential to building resilient energy systems, sustaining investment and ensuring long-term growth in the country’s upstream petroleum industry.
“We firmly believe that resilient energy systems, sustained investment and long-term growth can only be achieved through strong partnerships,” she said.
Eyesan observed that the global energy landscape is undergoing unprecedented transformation driven by geopolitical developments, climate considerations, technological disruption, artificial intelligence, changing investment priorities and rising energy demand.
She noted that these developments are reshaping how nations produce, transport and consume energy, making it imperative for regulators and operators to adapt to the changing environment.
According to the NUPRC chief, the ongoing transition also presents significant opportunities for countries willing to embrace innovation, strengthen collaboration and position themselves for emerging energy realities.
“These changes also present tremendous opportunities for countries that are prepared to adapt, innovate and work together,” Eyesan added.
She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fostering an enabling regulatory environment that promotes investment, innovation and sustainable development in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas industry.
