The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs. Oritsemeyewa Eyesan, has called on the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) to uphold industry standards, deepen human capital development, and entrench sound corporate governance practices.Eyesan made the call during a courtesy visit by an IPPG delegation led by its Chairman, Mr. Adegbite Falade, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026.She emphasised the critical role of human capital in sustaining growth and competitiveness within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, warning against declining standards as the industry expands.“One area I think we need to spotlight is human capital development. As the industry grows, there is a tendency of default and if we allow that to fester, it will hurt all of us,” she said.Eyesan further noted that Nigeria’s performance in the global energy market is assessed collectively, rather than on a company-by-company basis, stressing the need for operators to maintain high professional standards.“Because we are in a global market, the financiers are rating Nigeria; they are not rating companies, and if we do not bring our human capacity to par, then we will be creating a big problem for ourselves,” she added. The NUPRC boss reiterated the Commission’s commitment to fostering a regulatory environment that promotes efficiency, accountability, and sustainable growth in the upstream petroleum sector.
