Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Saturday, August 15, 2026, governorship election.
Obaseki, who is currently a Researcher/Scholar at the School of African Studies, Boston University, United States of America, described Adeleke’s victory as decisive and a reflection of the wishes of the people of Osun State.
In a congratulatory message, Obaseki said the outcome of the election was significant because it demonstrated the resolve of the people to defend their democratic choice and resist attempts to undermine their mandate.
He said: “It is with great pleasure that I congratulate His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his decisive victory in the Saturday, August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
“This victory is particularly significant, not only because it reflects the wishes of the people of Osun State to entrust you with the mandate to serve as their Governor for another four years, but also because it demonstrates the futility of anti-democratic forces deployed by desperate politicians to subvert the will of the people.”
According to Obaseki, Adeleke’s re-election sends a strong message that Nigerians can defend their democratic choices when they unite with courage, determination and a common purpose.
“Your victory sends a clear message to Nigerians that when the people stand together with courage, determination and a common purpose, they possess the power to defend their democratic choices and compel political leaders to act in the best interests of the people,” he added.
Drawing from his own political experience, the former Edo governor said a hard-fought election ultimately determined by the wishes of the electorate should serve as a reminder to public office holders that their primary loyalty must remain with the people.
He stressed that elected leaders should not allow their mandates to be influenced by the interests of privileged individuals who benefit from access to political power.
Obaseki therefore congratulated Adeleke on what he described as a well-deserved victory and expressed confidence that the governor would use his second term to further develop Osun State and improve the welfare of its people.
“I therefore heartily congratulate you, Your Excellency, on this well-deserved victory and wish you a highly successful second term in office. I am confident that you will continue to dedicate yourself to the development of Osun State and the advancement of the welfare and aspirations of its people,” he said.
