Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed sadness over the death of Chief Dan Osi Orbih, describing the late politician as a prominent Edo son and influential figure in Nigerian politics.
Orbih, who died at the age of 64, was a former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State and later served as the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-South.
In a condolence statement, Obaseki said Orbih made significant contributions to the development of the PDP in Edo State and Nigeria through his years of political leadership and public service.
He described the deceased as an influential voice in Edo State whose long years of engagement in public affairs earned him a place in the political history of the state.
“Chief Orbih was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and an influential voice in Edo State. For many years, he provided leadership to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State as its State Chairman and subsequently served as the PDP National Vice Chairman, South South,” Obaseki said.
According to him, Orbih’s contributions to the party and public affairs would be remembered, adding that his death represents a significant loss to Edo State and Nigeria.
Obaseki extended his condolences to Orbih’s family, friends, political associates, colleagues and numerous well-wishers.
He particularly sympathised with the deceased’s wife, children and other loved ones, praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
“May God grant his family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss, and may He grant Chief Dan Osi Orbih eternal rest,” he said.
Obaseki is currently a Visiting Scholar and Researcher at the School of African Studies, Boston University, USA, and a former Governor of Edo State.
