CNN award-winning journalist and Queen of Apomu Kingdom, Olori Janet Afolabi, has launched the Network of Women in Rural Areas, an initiative aimed at empowering women and promoting economic growth in local communities.
The launch, held on October 15 at the Alapomu Palace Hall in Apomu, headquarters of Isokan Local Government Area, Osun State, was part of activities to celebrate rural women and create a platform for them to access financial support for their small businesses.
In her welcome address, Olori Afolabi said the participating women would receive interest-free loans to expand their businesses and enhance their economic prospects.

“I am committed to supporting women in rural areas. This Network is a testament to my dedication to promoting women’s economic empowerment and reducing poverty in rural communities,” she stated.
Speaking at the event, Chief Christiana Akinlabu, the Otun Iyalode of Apomu and a member of the Apomu Market Development Committee, described the initiative as a major breakthrough for women in rural areas who face challenges accessing financial assistance.
“This is a significant step in promoting women’s enterprise. It will have a positive impact on the lives of women and their families,” she said.
Several women who attended the event received zero-interest loans and various gift items to support their livelihoods.
The Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Afolabi, urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously and ensure timely repayment to sustain the initiative.
“Use the money for the purpose it was given and do not default when it is time to pay back,” the monarch advised.
