
The Warri Kingdom witnessed a moment of profound historical significance on Thursday as His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, conferred upon Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the prestigious chieftaincy title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom.
According to the palace, the investiture carried deep personal and emotional meaning, marking what many described as an official homecoming.
“Her Excellency proudly traces her maternal roots to the Itsekiri ethnic nationality, affirming her identity as one of Warri Kingdom’s most distinguished daughters.
“By formally welcoming her through this revered traditional honour, Ogiame Atuwatse III reaffirmed the kingdom’s pride in her life’s journey, her decades of public service, and the grace and dignity with which she has represented Nigeria both at home and on the global stage.
In addition to the chieftaincy title, the First Lady was decorated with the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI), the second-highest honour within the Warri Kingdom.
The distinction is reserved for exceptionally esteemed sons, daughters, and allies of the Itsekiri nation, underscoring the rarity and significance of the recognition.
The grandeur of the ceremony was amplified by the presence of prominent dignitaries from across Nigeria.
Among them were the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; and the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi I, alongside other revered royal fathers, senior government officials, and distinguished guests.
