The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has inaugurated the National Palm Oil Traceability Framework and Inter-Agency Committee to boost palm oil production, enhance consumer confidence, and increase exports.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi explained that the committee will tackle issues like adulteration, poor processing, and packaging, and promote responsible production and sourcing in Nigeria’s oil palm sector.
The committee will operate under the National Initiative for Sustainable and Climate-Smart Oil Palm Smallholders (NISCOPS) and aims to establish a comprehensive National Palm Oil Traceability System to monitor production, certification, and supply chain data. This initiative is expected to enhance global competitiveness, promote sustainable production, and increase Nigeria’s revenue through exports.
The committee comprises representatives from government agencies, private sector actors, farmers’ cooperatives, and development partners.
