The Ghanaian Police Service has arrested one Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, a Nigerian national wanted for the alleged killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, Lasisi Funmilayo, and her daughter, Sewa, in Ogun State, Nigeria.
George Ohene-Boadi, Regional Commander of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, confirmed the arrest during a press conference. He revealed that the 36-year-old suspect fled Nigeria in an attempt to evade security operatives after the crime.
According to Ohene-Boadi, the arrest followed the interception of a video circulating online, alleging that Fajemirokun had abducted and murdered Funmilayo and her daughter in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
“The suspect was wanted by the Nigerian police, but he ran to Ghana to hide with his friends,” the Commander said.
He explained that intelligence gathered by the police pointed to the suspect’s hideout in Akutia, located in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Acting swiftly, the Eastern South Regional Police Command deployed an intelligence-led operation that successfully led to his arrest.
The Ghanaian authorities have since commenced arrangements for further investigations and possible extradition to Nigeria, where Fajemirokun is expected to face prosecution for the alleged crimes.
