Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Barcelona 4-2 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night, ending the Spanish side’s unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season.
The French champions produced a strong attacking display, scoring twice in the closing stages to secure all three points and maintain their perfect record in the Champions League league phase.
The victory took PSG to nine points from three matches, strengthening their position in the competition, while Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season across all competitions.
PSG broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Désiré Doué, who created space before finishing confidently to put the hosts ahead.
Barcelona responded after the break, with young midfielder Xavi Espart scoring in the 55th minute to restore parity.
The visitors’ goal offered fresh impetus, but PSG regained the advantage in the 72nd minute when Lucas Hernández headed home.
Barcelona refused to give up, however, as Lamine Yamal produced an excellent finish in the 79th minute to bring the score to 2-2.
With the match finely balanced, PSG stepped up their attacking intensity and struck twice in quick succession to settle the contest.
Vitinha restored the hosts’ lead in the 81st minute with a composed finish before Fabián Ruiz sealed the victory five minutes later, converting after Achraf Hakimi delivered the ball across the area.
The late goals ended Barcelona’s hopes of salvaging a result and underlined PSG’s ability to deliver when it mattered most.
The result also highlighted PSG’s attacking depth and efficiency against elite European opposition, while raising questions about Barcelona’s defensive resilience in the decisive stages of high-profile matches.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona showed considerable character by twice recovering from behind. Yamal’s goal and Espart’s contribution provided encouraging moments for the Spanish side.
Meanwhile, Liverpool also moved to nine points after edging Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield on the same night.
PSG moved ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, according to reports following Tuesday’s fixtures, as both sides strengthened their early claims in the league phase.
For PSG, the victory represented another significant statement of intent in their pursuit of European success, while Barcelona will look to recover from their first setback of the campaign.
