The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Tuesday, disclosed that five of its officers were killed in September 2025 after being knocked down by reckless motorists while on duty.
A statement issued by
the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide explained that the incidents occurred across five formations of the Corps within the month.
According to the statement, the officers were killed on September 6 in Ekiti Sector Command; September 8 in Ogun Sector Command; September 15 in Taraba Sector Command; September 19 along Jos By-Pass Unit Command; and September 24 in Obollo Afor Unit Command.
Meanwhile,
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has vowed to prosecute the drivers.
Parts of the statement read: “Their deaths are not mere statistics, they represent human lives dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners, cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads.
“Gravely disturbed, the Corps Marshal noted with great concern the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives who, beyond being exposed to speeding vehicles, now also contend with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults”.
The FRSC boss stressed that the FRSC will no longer tolerate acts of recklessness that endanger its staff, warning that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.
He called on personnel across formations nationwide to exercise more levels of alertness and ensure their safety is highly prioritised, noting that they need to be safe and alive to save others.
In line with this, the Corps is intensifying engagements with relevant authorities on the protection of its personnel and installations.
This measure, he emphasised, is not intended for aggression but as a safeguard to deter assaults and ensure that officers can perform their duties without fear of attack.
