The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has recognized the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for its strides in strengthening port operations, presenting the agency with the Leadership In Action Award at its Gala Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night.
The award was handed to the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The recognition follows the remarkable progress recorded through the Ports & Customs Efficiency Committee, an initiative set up by PEBEC to drive efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and improve service delivery at Nigeria’s seaports.
The committee, led by the NPA, enhances collaboration between the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Customs Service with the aim of reducing cargo dwell time, improving joint vessel examination, and lowering transit costs.
Since its inception, the committee has delivered notable improvements, including shorter vessel turnaround times and faster cargo clearance—key indicators of increasing operational efficiency within Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Receiving the award, Dr. Dantsoho expressed appreciation on behalf of the NPA, emphasizing that the honour represents a renewed call to duty.
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to deepening reforms and delivering even greater service efficiency across the nation’s ports.
“This award is not just a recognition of what has been achieved, but a commitment to achieve even more,” Dantsoho said, pledging continued collaboration with stakeholders to sustain the momentum of port transformation.
The ceremony highlighted PEBEC’s ongoing efforts to reinforce Nigeria’s competitiveness by celebrating institutions that are driving meaningful change in the business environment.
