
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is set for a significant transformation as the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NIPERA) bill awaits presidential assent from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This development was highlighted by NSC’s Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr. Akutah Pius during the Council’s 2025 operational retreat in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Akutah said that the new bill is a reflection on the current administration’s efforts to create a more efficient port regulatory system, emphasizing the importance of the maritime industry to Nigeria’s development.
He maintained that President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the Blue Economy is underscored by the creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, led by Hon. Oyetola Adegboyega.
Former NIMASA Director-General, Mfon Usoro, highlighted the need for an economic regulator to manage fiscal matters, expressing confidence in NIPERA’s potential to provide effective regulation.
The Director Strategic Planning and Research, Mr. Rotimi Anifowose emphasized the crucial role of middle management in the NSC’s structure.
Anifowose, noted that middle managers are the “engine of operations,” connecting strategic and tactical aspects while driving results.
With the NIPERA bill’s passage, the NSC is set to play a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s maritime industry, focusing on regulatory advancements, leadership development, and sustainable growth.
