The Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, has stated that the Council remains committed to its role as the port economic regulator and is actively pursuing its transition into the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA).
Dr. Akutah made this known during a one-day sensitization programme on the online portal for the registration of regulated port service providers and users held in Kaduna.
The Chief Executive Officer, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Stakeholders Engagement, Mrs. Adaba Hannah, noted that the Council has intensified efforts to promote efficiency, transparency, and compliance in the port and shipping sector.
She emphasized that a critical part of this effort is the mandatory registration of all regulated port service providers and users, in accordance with Part 2, Section 4(1) of the Port Economic Regulation 2015.
She further informed the gathering that the implementation of the online registration portal marks a significant milestone in the Council’s journey toward digital transformation. The portal enhances trade facilitation and is a necessary component, as it provides a structured database of all industry operators—fostering accountability, efficiency, and data-driven regulation.
According to her, the platform allows stakeholders to seamlessly register their companies online without the need for physical visits to any NSC office.
Speaking at the event, the Director of the Northwest Coordinating Office, Alhaji Ahmed Yazah, stated that the presence of stakeholders at the event has given the Council hope and motivation to continue working collaboratively in fulfilling its responsibilities as the port economic regulator.
