The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has taken its awareness campaign to the Kaduna International Trade Fair, educating stakeholders and agencies on its functions and activities.
Also at the fair, the Council’s clinic provided a platform for stakeholders to learn about the NSC’s initiatives and projects.
According to Alh. Buba Danjuma, Deputy Director of the Kaduna Port Office, the NSC has facilitated the establishment of Inland Dry Port (IDP) projects in Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina while others are in the process of completion.
This initiative aims to bring shipping activities closer to shippers in the hinterlands, reduce congestion at seaports, and enhance the ease of doing business.
Danjuma highlighted that freight forwarders no longer need to travel to Lagos to take delivery of cargoes, as this can now be done in the North West State.
He also explained that the Council has established a Border Information Center (BIC) to facilitate cross-border trade by providing on-the-spot information to traders at the borders.
The NSC has also adopted an open-door policy in handling complaints from users and providers of port services through its Complaints Unit.
He urged Stakeholders to utilize the opportunity to direct their genuine complaints to the Council for redress.
Muhammed Kasali Abdulsalam, Chairman of the Export Trade Group, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, commended the NSC for its efforts in enlightening shippers on its activities and projects.
He also praised the Council’s television program and social media platforms, which serve as additional avenues for showcasing regulatory activities.
Abdulsalam emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NSC and stakeholders, noting that it is crucial for the Council’s existence.
